2025 Christ Child Society Shower of Love: A Celebration of Literacy and Community

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as Milwaukee gathers at the Italian Community Center for the Christ Child Society’s largest fundraising event of the year, the Shower of Love. The event is dedicated to supporting CCS programs to provide clothing for needy newborns and providing additional services to follow the child and nurture the youth in the Greater Milwaukee area.

This year’s theme is literacy, and we are thrilled to have Maya Payne Smart as our keynote speaker. Maya is a renowned author, book lover and literacy advocate. Her passion for literacy in children aligns beautifully with our mission. Maya is the author of “Reading for Our Lives: A Literacy Action Plan from Birth to Six” and runs a website, MayaSmart.com, which offers book lists, literacy activities and other free family resources to help parents in their roles as first teachers and educational advocates.

“We hope everyone will join us for an event filled with hope, inspiration and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children. Together, we can foster a love for reading and learning that will last a lifetime,” said Diane Hicks, Shower of Love co-chair.

The MC is former WISN-TV anchor Kathy Mykleby, who has a strong history of connecting kids with mentors and will guide the audience through a meaningful time of celebration and giving.

The event begins at 10:30 AM with a social hour and silent auction.

We’ll continue with lunch and our keynote speaker.

Attendees are encouraged to bring an infant layette item, such as… receiving blanket, crib blanket, sweater, zip sweatshirt, onesies, sleep & play, blanket sleeper, socks, knit hat, bottle, diapers (size newborn or 1)

Clothing should be size 3-6 months

These will be distributed to area social service agencies.
